About Root Plot

A small site about measuring your grow

Root Plot helps home growers stop guessing. We explain the numbers behind a healthy indoor grow and research the meters, tents and tools that read them.

Last updated: October 26, 2026

Our mission

Most indoor plants do not fail because the grower did not care. They fail because the grower could not see what was happening. A pH that drifted. A tent that ran too humid overnight. A pot that was wet at the bottom and dry on top. Root Plot exists to make those invisible problems visible, with clear target numbers and honest guidance on the tools that read them.

Why we started

Hydroponics and indoor growing have a strange problem. The equipment is cheap and the advice is everywhere, but the advice rarely agrees. One forum says pH 5.5. Another says 6.5. One video says run your tent at 70 percent humidity. Another says that will rot your plants. New growers end up buying a drawer full of meters and still do not know which number to trust.

We started Root Plot to be the calm voice in that noise. We read the manufacturer documentation, the published growing guides and the long term owner reviews, then we write it down in plain language with the ranges you can actually aim for.

What we cover

  • Setup: grow tents, grow boxes, grow lights, fans, ducting and the small parts that make a tent work. Grow Tent Setup and Equipment
  • Feed: growing media, nutrient solutions, pH control and reservoir care. Growing Media and Nutrients
  • Check: pH meters, TDS and EC meters, hygrometers, moisture meters and plant care tools. Meters, Testing and Plant Care
  • Reviews: best-of lists and comparisons built around a real use case, such as a greenhouse, an olive tree or a carnivorous plant collection. Reviews

How we research

We want to be clear about what Root Plot is and is not. We are a research publication. We do not run a testing lab and we do not claim to have used every product we write about. Here is what we actually do for every review and guide:

  • Manufacturer specifications. We start with the maker’s own numbers: measuring range, accuracy, calibration method, probe type, battery life, dimensions and warranty.
  • Published documentation. We read user manuals, calibration instructions and growing guides so our advice matches how the product is designed to be used.
  • Verified owner reviews. We study what real buyers report after weeks and months of use, with special attention to accuracy drift, build quality and support.
  • Comparison and synthesis. We line products up against the same criteria and explain which one fits which situation, rather than naming a single winner for everyone.

Our promise

If a product has a known weakness in owner reports, we say so. If a target range depends on your plant or growth stage, we say that too. We would rather you buy the right ten dollar hygrometer than the wrong sixty dollar one.
